WHAT IS GOD DOING?????????????? Good question...Recently I’ve been challenged to write a piece on "What is God doing?" In Genesis we find God busy creating... In Exodus we find him busy affecting a mighty deliverance. I n Leviticus he sets forth all the laws and judgments concerning his covenant with his chosen people. We could go on, but suffice it to say God is still busy today... creating, delivering, and trying to help us understand the law of this new covenant, which many of us have entered into with him in THIS day. This law is summed up in one short sentence..."Love your neighbor as yourself." Everything God is about today revolves around these five words. "Love your neighbor as yourself." This slogan should be nailed to the door of every senate office on capital hill, and on every church door in the land, just as Martin Luther nailed his thesis on the door long ago. For we as a people have forgotten the fundamentals of love. Today religion spends more time lobbying on the hill than it does visiting the sick and incarcerated. We as a nation have forgotten Plymouth Rock, and the most meaningful Rock of all ...The Rock of our salvation. We have forsaken and forgotten Calvary and the dying Savior who said ..."love your neighbor as yourself." What does love have to do with a religious monarch who blasts the fundamental rights of one segment of humanity? How can that be considered viable today? What does love have to do with a leader who is willing to discard a large portion of his constituents because he panders to the religious right? And finally what does love have to do with a main stream religion which damns to hell those it deems unfit for its meeting halls? So we ask "What is God doing today?” God is doing what God has always done ...He is outside the camp with the outcasts. He is walking among them and touching their wounds, speaking gently to those filled with the pain of unacceptance. One day the world will wonder: “Where has God gone?” You may look for him among the persecuted… that’s where; His manly form and tattered robes still moving among the needy.
