" To thine own self be true."

......Text. Rom.14 : 12

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

As you read this really search for a true accounting of just how true you have been to yourself. God - Bless you and prosper you. Sis.Flo.

Remember the old adage which says, " To thine own self be true." ?
Most of us hardly need a reminder for this. We often interpet this to mean we should always look out for number one. This we generally do without any unnecessary prompting from anyone else,it seems to be a priority we've learned early in life. Often accompainied by another old adage, 'Do unto others before they do you,' a sad corrupt rendering of a beautiful admonishment from scripture.
Which really says, " Do unto others what you would like for them to do unto you."
But just what would constitute for us the real meaning of being true to ourselves.?
Would it mean getting all we can and banking all we get.? Or is there a greater more lovely side to this old homily.?
Were we to sit down and really take stock of this old adage, with integrity and honesty, begin, to apply it to our lives , I think we would be somewhat shocked at just how very untrue we have been to ourselves.
Our own best interest has not always been served, just because we have insisted on our own way in all things, nor when we greedily grasp for the biggest and best.
On our way up the ladder of life we seek to maintain health, and to acquire wealth and some amount of wisdom.
Health programs if not the single biggest industry is, somewhere near the top.
As we flip through our T.V. channels we are bombarded by multiple commercials espousing everything from pills to pools, that us earthlings remain healthy and beautiful.
At the first small sign of a new disease the watch dogs of the nations health bureau are immediately on the move to find an effictive cure. For which we thank God.
Yet despite all the hurry and hipe, we still sicken and die...Cancer, heart disease, and stroke just to name a few , steals away our loved ones every day of the year.
And sadly , but very true, sometimes those who keep themselves from the nasty killer habits , such as tobacco, liquor and the terrible mind warping illegal drugs, will often fall ill of some disease, seemingly related, and succumb, while we are left to wonder.
Our health, the medical world will tell us, hinges on how well we deal with stress,
overwork and demand. Also it is seriously linked to our diets, we should not over eat, over indulge, or become over weight.
We must assidously monitor all we imbibe, subscribe , and masticate, the list is endless.
Yet the three Hebrew children on a diet of vegetables and water were positively glowing with robust health, which the medical community of that day could not account for.
As for our minds, the psalmist says, " Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee." And as for those over burdened, in Matt. 11 : 29.. Jesus admonishes us to, "Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart : and you shall find rest for your soul."
Even still, despite all this, we must all at some time succumb to the specter of death but, while we have life we can have the best, as we follow closely the lowly Galilean.
Wisdom in our every day choices, is something that the volatile person seldom takes time for, and consequently many of us find ourselves literally incarcerated by our bad choices.
Then there are those of us who excercise grave caution in our more serious situations. But, even then the choice isnt always the best.
Much of life is bound up in risk, and the safest way to make our choices and to put to the best use, our hard earned wisdom, is to bring it under the headship of Christ.
Since wisdom is one of the seven spirits of God we'll find no lack there, for he gives liberally to all who call upon Him.
Next, our wealth...For those of us smart enough to have held our noses to the grindstone of a time clock, and if we have kept back a little of our earnings, and have invested in sercure investments, we may be riding a wave of prosperity.
Some of us the very priviledged , have had wealth handed to us by some wealthy parent, relative or some other benefactor. Such people are fortunate indeed.
However to keep this wealth intact , some seriously good choices must be made.
Again, even then there is no real guarantee , for the plunging Dow, the downward spirial of the Nasdaq, and the falling S& P could quickly discimate large portions of the wealth so carefully guarded.
So to be really true to ourselves we need to make an investment in that which will withstand the ravages of time, and in a person who will teach us the rudimentaries of building up treasure in a place where moth nor rust can corrode, where theives cannot break through and steal.
As for me I am persuaded to invest my life in the surest and best Savings and Loan Co. ever to be made available to man...And every check I write is signed with the name of my Benefactor...Our Lord Jesus Christ...And the dividends are rolling in all the time. There is no lack here, all my needs are met in Him.
" Once I was young now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread,"
Let us then my fellow believer be ready to give a good account of how we have managed our affairs here..."To thine own self be true," in the best sense of the word.
