A man's steps are
directed by the Lord.
How then can anyone know
his own way?
Hello my shortbread family...again today let us
share briefly a little bread from the masters table. He always has just the
right amount, and the right kind of food available on His table, that we
might grow strong and healthy in His service, and love. Allow Holy Spirit to
minister to you, as we go together to the table of the word.
The text is found in
Proverbs Chap. 20 verse 24...N.I.V
A Proverb of course is a Maxim...
Meaning that only the truth is being spoken by the writer...Only total truth
is desired by him.
Proverbs tells us in plain terms, that God desires only honesty within the
heart of man, and despises all forms of dishonesty.
Plainly dishonesty will work against the perpetrator in the end...To be
dishonest would quickly work against us ...We would lose friends and trust,
to name just a few of these loses...And we could never really enjoy
dishonest gains.
Others opinions of us is important in our walk with the Lord, and holding
our conscience in truth, allows us freedom to minister without self
reproach.
Our text asks the question, if a man's ways are directed by the Lord, how
can one know his own way.? We must put into practice the maxims of truth,
honesty, and all the righteous precepts with which God has endowed us as
believers.
Of all the important choices, we should desire most ardently, truth in the
inward person. When we desire truth above all else, we are well on our way
to some real understanding of our own way.
Some people take this scripture in Proverbs to mean, well then , if the
bible itself questions our ability to know our own way, how can we possibly
be blamed for any poor choices we might make.?
This is merely what is known in the vernacular as, "Passing the buck." A way
of absolving oneself of the blame. People try all the time to pass the
blame...and work very industriously to cover up a wrong, so as not to be
responsible for the inevitable consequences.
However, truth and honesty invited into the soul, will begin to set up in
the spirit of man, a strong capacity for knowing his own way. We as children
of God, have an inbuilt capacity, to know when a particular thing is not
something that will be for our best good...We feel the brush of conscience,
and the checking mechanism of Holy Spirit, helping us perceive that this
choice is not a good choice for us at this time.
Oh yes,!! we can surely know our own way, for those of us who walk not after
the flesh but after the Spirit, have within us God's divine search-light,
which searches out all the inner man. And this light will always guide us to
the right choices, if we will give place to Him.
Too often though we find ,that as the silly bird who chases his shadow in
the window until he has worn himself down , or literally killed himself...so
we too keep beating our wings against the bricks of inner truths , and take
our own way for it, and in the end , reap as we have sown.
I admonish you today , my precious fellow believer, allow the precious
Spirit of God within you to direct your paths...let Him by His ancient and
proven wisdom lead you to the hill of His delights, and when pressed to
make a choice He will unerringly lead you in the way.
For you are of more value than many beautiful birds, and He knows you by
name.
God - Bless all of you who desire only God's very best, and direct you in
your ways at all times. Sis. Flo.
